LogicInk, a San Francisco, CA-based startup and a pioneer in programmable materials, has designed a revolutionary product which will give you live feedback about your body and environment. Prevention is Better Than Cure
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, more people in the U.S. are diagnosed with skin cancer each year than all other cancers combined. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.
Another study shows that the cumulative effect of harmful UV rays is responsible for 90% of skin aging. Those statistics are terrifying and deeply alarming. Hopefully, LogicInk meets people’s needs and expectations by proposing a unique and simple solution.
LogicInk UV tracks both your UV exposure at the moment and your cumulative exposure over the course of a day, factoring in your sunblock. Whether where you are wearing this smart tattoo, at the beach, in the snow or the water, you don’t need to worry if you’re getting too much sun. LogicInk UV will alarm you.
The simpler, the better
Only what you have to do is to stick LogicInk’s device on a sun-exposed part of your body. This gadget will tell you how much sun you’re getting and exactly how close you are to reaching your daily limit.
Besides, this tattoo doesn’t require an app. It simply uses a UV sensor that changes colors to let you monitor your intake based on your skin tone. Learning curve or additional investment is not needed. LogicInk’s based its sensors’ technology just on the ink.
“By precluding electronics, we’re also precluding the need to have a bulky device on your skin or a higher cost or a steep learning curve,” Carlos Olguin, founder, and CEO of LogicInk, told.
Olguin’s team has crafted product equipped with two rings. The inner ring responds to the harshness of the sun, turning from white to purple; while the outer ring tells you when you’ve had enough sun by turning from pink to purple.
The Journey Has Just Begun
Currently, LogicInk is developing tattoos that can concentrate on blood alcohol level, pollution, hydration, and more.
The alcohol biosensor tattoo changes color as your blood alcohol level gets higher, letting you know how drunk you are. This is an extremely easy way to monitor the alcohol consumption. This gadget allows promoting a healthier lifestyle, especially among the young adults. Last but not least, the tattoo has been certified by the National Institute of Health.
Probably you continuously hear that air pollutants negatively affect most of the organs and systems of the human body. Apparently, being aware of the risk is not enough. Pollution sensor tattoo can sense colorimetrically nanograms of a common type of PM2.5 and amplify the signal so that it’s visible to the naked eye. In others word, this device will be sensitive to the smallest particulates in the air.
The hydration sensor isn’t just dedicated to athletes or fitness enthusiasts, but it’s also created for the elderly and other groups who might not realize that they’re dehydrated. Similarly, the tattoo would change color based on how hydrated you are. The hydration sensors detect your sweat and the skin volatiles that come from your skin and inform you about hydration level be changing the color in the tattoo.
